Cars in Germany's City Found Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Law Enforcement State

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Police stated they were alerted by a individual who found a automobile in Hanau smeared with reddish fluid

Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.

Officers report they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish liquid.

The liquid had been applied in the form of a swastika, they added.

Officers then found many other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Law enforcement say early analysis show the liquid was likely human blood.

"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they commented.

Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the public for tips.

A high-ranking representative said the vandalism rendered him speechless and required to be addressed promptly.

"This act strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he stated on social media, recalling the killing of nine victims by a assailant aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
